3A - Martin Luther King.


Born in January 16th, 1929.
Assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tenessee.
Best known for his peaceful fight for racial equality and civil rights in the US.


Martin Luther King was an excellent student in school. He experienced racism early in life and therefore decided to do something to make the world a better and fairer place.
After graduating in college and getting married Dr King became a minister and moved to Alabama.
During the 1950’s, Dr King became active in the movement for civil rights and racial equality. He participated in the Montgomery Alabama bus boycott where Rosa Parks was arrested for not standing and letting a white bus rider take her seat. She died in october 24th, 2005 and he participated to many other peaceful demonstrations. He won the Nobel ¨Peace Price in 1964.
« I have a dream » is one of his most famous speech delivered in march 1963 in Washington also called « Dream Day » in front of 250000 people. Here is an extract :

« I have a dream today… that one day…little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers. I have a dream today. » « I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character » August 28, 1963.
